How to Prepare delicious Almond Milk

Almonds are an excellent source of protein, healthy fats and antioxidants and almond skins contain beneficial phenols, flavonoids and phenolic acids which are typically found in vegetables and fruit.

According to Dr Mercola, drinking almond milk may therefore seem like a smart choice, one that may offer you the health benefits of almonds in beverage form – but it’s not as healthy as it would appear, particularly if you buy commercial varieties.

What exactly is almond milk? It’s typically a combination of almonds, water, sweetener, thickener such as carrageenan, and, often, fortified nutrients such as vitamins A, E, and D.

The problem is that most almond milk contains hardly any almonds, mostly water, added sugars, and a smattering of vitamins for good measure. As Business Insider put it:

If almond milk closely resembles any beverage, it’s a glass of water and a multivitamin.”

A Handful of Almonds in a Carton…

The amount of actual almonds in a half-gallon carton of almond milk is shocking: research suggests it’s just over a handful. In one analysis of the UK almond milk brand Alpro, almonds made up just 2 percent of the beverage, and the Almond Board of California noted that ingredients are pretty similar between UK and US almond milk brands.

If you’ve ever wondered how almond milk can be so low in calories – about 30 calories in a cup, compared to 160 calories in a serving of almonds – it’s because it’s mostly water… not almonds.

“Based on these numbers,” Business Insider reported, “to get the nutritional value of a handful of almonds, you’d have to drink not just a few cups of the almond milk but an entire carton of it.”

Benefits of almond milk

  6. Freshly made almond milk contains no sugar, and because of its low GI index, your body will be use stored fat for energy , helping with weight loss
  7. Almond milk is high in fibre which promotes healthy digestion

  9. Almond milk also helps increase muscle power due to the presence if riboflavin which is a form of vitamin B and iron
  10. Almond milk is very easy to make


  1. Soak raw almonds for 3 hours- you can use blanched or with skin almonds
  2. Rinse the almonds after 3 hours with fresh water
  3. Use the juicing strainer ( orange colour) inside your kuvings juicer
  4. Feed almonds and water into the juicer, with a ration of 10% almonds – 90% water- you can increase the almond ratio if you prefer a stronger almond flavour.
  5. the pulp that is injecting from the juicer can be put through a second time through the juicer to extract more of the flavour


You can use coconut water instead of spring water which gives a sweeter taste to the almond milk

The almond paste can be used as well by adding some coconut or soya yoghurt, maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon for a healthy protein snack.

A juice cleanse is beneficial for most people these days. Because our earth and food are not pure, it proves harmful to our bodies. Our diets include processed foods, chemicals, and non-organic substances.

A cleansing diet is needed because we constantly breathe in voc’s, toxic air, smoke and fumes. And while our bodies are always removing these toxins, it becomes increasingly harder the older we get. These un-natural substances build up inside our bodies and cause many different health problems. This makes it necessary to cleanse internally. You wouldn’t go a long time without cleaning your external body, right? Think about how dirty your internal body must be if you’ve never done a cleanse.

While body cleansing does go hand in hand with detoxing and fasting, there are many times when we want to cleanse a specific part of our body. We might want to do this to detoxify an area to get it “flowing” again, or we might have a problem in that area. This is when specific juice cleanses come in handy.

Keep in mind that your body is constantly eliminating…it has a flow to it, to make it function properly, just like clockwork. You must make sure all of your normal elimination channels are open for a cleanse to work properly, or you will experience some ill effects.

Carrot Tomato Celery Juice

3 Carrots
2 Tomatoes
2-3 Celery Ribs

Juice the carrots, tomatos and celery together. Serve immediately. A classic in our collection of vegetable juice recipes.

Tomato Juice

4 Tomatoes (Roma are firmer and work the best)

Cut the tomatoes into wedges and feed through your juicer. Serve.
Use tomato juice to make your own tomato soup. Mixing in some celery and a little carrot and parsley make a great tomato cocktail. I particulary enjoy this after work if I don’t feel like eating dinner right away (or at all).

Carrot Juice

7-9 long carrots

Carrot Juice is suprisingly sweet, has lots of vitamin A. No, getting too much is not toxic…your body will rid of any vitamins it doesnt need 🙂 Yes- it’s true, great for your eyes and skin! You can add it to almost any of your own vegetable juice recipes, as it is extremely versatile.


Sweet Kale Asparagus

2 Oranges
3 Kale leaves
1/2 cup Spinach
4 stalks of Asparagus

Peel the oranges and juice them with the kale, spinach and asparagus. Serve immediately.
Like all leafy greens kale has an amazing amount of chlorophyll, vitamin A and C. Asparagus has a lot of vitamin E (along with others, of course), and spinach has calcium and vitamin E. Needless to say, this will be good for your skin as well as getting in a good dose of nutrients for the day.


Broccoli Cabbage Cauliflower

1 Stalk of Broccoli
Quarter head of Cabbage
Quarter head of Cauliflower
2 Kale leaves
1/2 Lemon, peel ok
2 Apples

Core the apples and cut a lemon in half. Prepare the cabbage and cauliflower. Juice the broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale lemon and apples together. Serve.
What a way to get all those nutrients in a glass, eh? Cruciferous vegetables are rich in endoles, the cancer preventative chemicals.


Spinach Watercress Juice

3 sprigs of Parsley
1 handful of Spinach
1 handful of Watercress
3 apples

Core the apples. Juice the apples plus all the greens together and serve. This is a great blood cleanser!


Spinach Carrot Combo

1 handful of Spinach
6 Carrots

Cut tops of of the carrots if necessary. Juice the spinach and carrots together. Serve.
This is an alkalizing digestive juice.


Carrot Beet Juice

1/2 Beet (some of the are greens ok if you want)
6 Carrots

Juice the carrots with the beets and serve.


Pineapple Celery Juice

2 Pineapple rounds
4 stalks of celery

Core a pineapple and remove the rind. Cut the celery into 3 inch pieces  Take two 1 inch rounds of the pineapple and juice it with the celery. Serve.


Cucumber Tomato Juice

1 cucumber
1 tomato
1 garlic clove, peeled

Cut the cucumber in fours. Cut the tomato in half. Peel the garlic. Juice together and serve immediately.

Juicing for Weight Loss

Whether you’re looking to shed a few pounds quickly, or jump start a bigger weight loss goal, juicing is a great option. It’s simple math – to lose weight you must burn more calories than you consume. It can be a challenge to get all of the nutrients you need to perform your daily tasks while keeping your caloric intake at a deficit. Adding some nutrient-rich juices and smoothies will go a long way in helping with that goal.

There are a lot of reasons we gain weight. The most common is from consuming more calories than we burn. Many of these are usually nutrient-poor calories. The effect of poor diet choices is that it starts a domino effect. It goes something like this: Stress, rushing to eat, grab convenience foods that are non-nutritious, still hungry because body didn’t actually get any nutrients, eat more. Poor digestion, poor elimination, no time for exercise, poor sleep, hormone imbalance, skin problems, medication, side-effects of medication, diminished capacity (both physically and mentally), and so on. Next thing you know you’re getting your gall bladder removed or the lap band procedure or some other extreme management of symptoms, none of which have solved the problem. There is also the possibility of undiagnosed food intolerance, which could be playing a role. Other signs of this would be new allergies and lowered immunity. Hormonal imbalance is a probability in overweight people, again often due to their diet. Toxic buildup from food, the environment, medicines, personal care products, unfiltered water, and bad habits like soda all contribute to an unbalanced and unhealthy body. No matter what your situation is, juicing is likely a great way to start getting back on track.

What works

First you need to decide what your goal for juicing is. That will help you determine how long you need to juice, as well as plan your menu and budget. It is not advisable to go for a juice fast if you are new to detoxing. Cleansing and detoxifying your body is a necessary step in regaining your health and a normal weight. A great documentary to consider watching is Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. Start with small steps such as cleaning up your diet, kicking some bad habits, budgeting in more time and money for fresh, organic vegetables. You can add juicing to these efforts to boost the effect and the results, which will boost your willpower.

By definition, being overweight means your liver is overworked. The liver is where fat is metabolized, but that job gets put on the back burner when it is overworked with more important tasks. So, for any weight loss plan to be successful, you also have to nourish your liver. You do that by 1.) removing toxins it has to process, such as that Sweet’N Low in your iced tea and that aspartame in your diet soda, and 2) eating nutrient dense food and lots of green leafy vegetables. Some of the foods you should eat are obvious, such as the cruciferous vegetables for liver health. Other things are less obvious, such as olive oil and nuts, both of which have more calories, but since many weight problems include an inability to digest fats, that makes up for fat cravings. By supplying your body with healthy fats, your probability of cheating on your diet goes down.

Guidelines for juicing to lose weight

1. Use only raw, organic vegetables. You want to avoid toxins and add enzymes. Superfoods are key to getting as many nutrients as possible. Examples: carrots, kale, cucumbers, acai berries, etc.

2. While juicing, it is important to stay active. As you lose weight – water weight, toxins, fluid retained due to inflammation, etc., you want to keep moving with some light to moderate exercise. You want to lose fat and toxins, not muscle. Also, your lymph system has no pump to save your feet, so get moving.

3. Maximize your budget. Buy local, organic vegetables and fruits that are in season. They are fresher and cheaper, allowing you to extend the amount of time you can juice.

4. Research recipes. Be sure you are getting more vegetables than fruits so that you don’t offset your work by increasing insulin levels. This is where you’ll need to add things like avocado, chia or flax seeds, protein powder, banana, nuts. You want to be sure you’re eating a balanced diet. Branch out. This is a great time to get your digestive tract some new material. Consider juicing veggies you wouldn’t like to eat. Beats, for example, are a powerhouse of nutrition, with lots nutrients you don’t find from many other sources. They are delicious juiced or in a smoothie.

5. Be sure all of your avenues of elimination are working properly – sweat daily, move your bowels, drink plenty of water to urinate frequently and flush out those toxins. It’s not uncommon for women to experience a shorter cycle after juicing. This usually means you have eliminated some of that stored estrogen, another marker your juicing was a success. Consider taking some baseline readings before and after your adventure, such as weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, measurements, etc.

Be sure your diet includes: cruciferous vegetables, green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, sulfur rich foods, and fiber. Eliminate sugar and all its relatives (including all artificial sweeteners), bad fats such as fried foods, refined carbohydrates, alcohol, and gluten. Support your efforts. It’s a good time to meditate. Consider trying an emotional detox at the same time. Consider drinking some detox tea, or other herbal tea. Go to a health food store and find some high quality whole food based supplements to support your health. As they say on the airplane – put your own mask on first. You can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself. Have some fun indulging in better health.

Blueberry is well known for the taste and the nutrients. According to the New York Times, blueberry is the best health food for teenagers and adults. Consuming twenty to thirty blueberries will reduce fatigue, recover visual acuity, and reduce the effects of aging.

  1. Clean organic blueberries with water, Non-organic blueberries needs to be cleaned with lemon, vinegar, or baking soda.

Watermelon Juice
